PAWA 254 has today launched the 2018 Kenya Photography Awards.
Now in its fifth year, the awards will see photographers submit their photos on the Kenya Photography Awards website (http://www.photoawards.co.ke/ ) between 26th March 2018 to 19th May 2018 under seven different categories.
The categories are: Creative, Portraiture, News, Sports, Nature, Daily Life and Humanitarian/Documentary.
The awards seek to recognize skill, talent and hard work among professionals and up and rising photographers in the country.
“We are glad to be back this year after missing out on last year’s edition. So far, we have seen some significant growth in the photography industry and more in winners of past awards. These awards go a long way to ensuring that we not only appreciate and celebrate photography as an art but also support and motivate young and upcoming photographers to pursue the art,” Njeri Mwangi noted, K.P.A Organizer, PAWA254.
She added: “This year, it’s going to be amazing. I would like to encourage all photographers – photojournalists, amateur photographers as well as selfie masters to come all out and share their best photos under the various categories and together let us celebrate talent.”
On his part, Carl De Souza, judge, noted: “In 2016, we got some really impressive shots and so this year, judges will be looking for much more. The competition will be stiff and I encourage all entrants to put their best foot forward as they submit their entries.”
Timelines for this year’s competitions:
Submission phase – March 26th – 19th May 2018
Judging phase – 21 – 27 May
Nominee announcement – 28th May
Awards ceremony – 10th June 2018
In 2016, the awards attracted over 1600 entries.
